Debuted as a teenager in 1932 and by the end of the following year, a season in which he played for City Firsts and St George reached the final, was recognised as one of the most reliable fullbacks in the competition. Robinson played for The Rest against the Kangaroos in 1934 and was a constant figure at the back for Saints until 1937, when he broke his wrist in a game against Norths and couldn’t regain his first-grade place from Jack Wedgwood
