A winger in St George’s first premiership-winning side in 1941, and also part of the sides that lost the grand final in 1942 and 1946. Made his first-grade debut in 1940, having built a reputation in the lower grades for his versatility; played as a scrum half and in the three-quarters. Missed 1944 because of war service, but came back to score a hat-trick of tries in the second half against Canterbury at the SCG in 1946 in his 100th grade match. Was elected a club selector on his retirement at the end of 1947, one of the youngest men ever appointed to the role
