Played only three seasons for St George, but was an exceptional halfback throughout his time in Sydney football. In 1949, finished equal third in the Sunday Herald’s player of the year competition, as Saints stormed to their second premiership. Captained the team six times in his first year, when he was 21, and was extremely resilient, missing only game in his time with St George. In 1967, Rugby League News described him as ‘a rugged little halfback of the Billy Smith type’
