Made his first-grade debut in 1980 as a short-term replacement at five-eighth for the injured Tony Trudgett, but would make his name as a centre. From 1983 to 1992, though Saints’ other centres included names such as Michael O’Connor, Brian Johnston, Chris Johns and Mark Coyne, was a regular member of the first-grade side. Played in the 1985 and 1992 Grand Finals, leading the side in the latter game, and in St George’s winning Panasonic Cup team in 1988. Was Dally M captain of the year in 1992 and the first centre to play 200 first-grade games for the club
