A star fullback in Inverell before he signed with St George for the 1954 season. Was a leading tryscorer in his first season, rare for a fullback in that era, but then switched to the three-quarters in 1955 and made his representative debut as a winger. Played as a centre for Saints in 1956, including in the Dragons’ grand final win, and his versatility was recognised when he was picked for NSW and the Kangaroos. Such was the competition for first-grade places, he would make only six more first-grade appearances in 1957–58.
