Came to St George in 1979, immediately beat Steve Edge for the hooker’s position, and stayed in the top side until round 20, when Edge took over for the rest of the season. With Edge’s departure to Parramatta, was the first-choice Dragons hooker for the next four seasons. In 1982, played for Queensland in all three Origin matches and was a certainty for that year’s Kangaroo tour until damaging his knee in a round-23 loss to Balmain. Played in the 1983 finals series, lost his spot to Chris Guider early in 1984, but fought back to play in Saints’ finals matches before leaving the club at the end of the season
