Jim Hale

A journeyman lightweight backrower who appeared in only nine first-grade games in his first three seasons with Saints, after previously playing at Souths and in the bush. Everything changed in 1944, when he played all but one game, and was Saints’ captain in 1945 and vice-captain in 1946, when the renowned Herb Narvo came to St George as captain-coach and took the Dragons to within a point of the premiership. Appeared in every position in the pack, from hooker to lock, and was an inspiration to his younger teammates. Played his 100th grade game in 1947
