Played for Thirroul before joining St George in 1945. Was one of Saints’ best players in 1946, when named as a Test reserve and was a key man in the Dragons’ charge under Herb Narvo to the minor premiership and grand final. Appointed vice-captain at the start of 1947, but a move from prop to the second row did not work out, he was suspended, and then broke his wrist, and never regained top form
