A Newcastle product, played in the centres alongside Reg Gasnier in the Grand Final wins of 1960 (when aged 19) and 1961, and was named the reserve back in 1962. Played five-eighth for City Firsts against Country Firsts in 1961 and a NSW representative versus Queensland and Great Britain in 1962. Returned to Newcastle and led that team to victory over St George in a semi-final of the State Cup in 1964
