St George have rarely if ever had the depth in the forwards that confronted Chris Walsh for much of his five seasons at St George. Even so, the Port Kembla junior played finals football from 1983 to 1985 and appeared in 88 first-grade games. Best year was 1984, when he didn’t miss a game and played for NSW, keeping forwards such as Graeme Wynn, Bill Noke and Robert Stone out of the Dragons’ starting line-up. Left Saints for Illawarra, where he played 77 games from 1987 to 1992 and captained the Steelers to victory in the pre-season Tooheys Challenge Cup in 1992
