Penshurst RSL junior who had the misfortune to play for St George when the club was blessed with three-quarters such as Brian Johnston, Mick Beattie and Michael O’Connor. This meant he did not play as much first-grade as he might have for the Dragons, and sometimes was moved to the wing. Best year for Saints was 1986, when he played 19 games, 14 of them in the centres. Came on as a replacement in the 1985 Grand Final. A year after moving to the Brisbane Broncos in 1988, became the first Brisbane-based player to appear for NSW in a State of Origin match and made his Test debut a year later. Played for Brisbane against St George in the 1992 and 1993 Grand Finals, scoring a try in the latter game, and was Melbourne CEO in 1999 when the Storm beat St George Illawarra
