Brian Johnson was a Rugby League star in the 1980s in Sydney and in Northern England. He went on to become a successful Rugby League coach in both countries.
He was diagnosed with Younger Onset Dementia, suspected CTE, in 2010 and died in 2016. His wife, Karen, cared for him at home until he passed away.
Her intermittent journal in the form of letters to Brian and to others gives insight into declining cognition and the challenges faced day to day by carers.
This book is a deeply personal account of enduring love.
Karen and Brian Johnson were high school sweethearts and were happily married for 37 years. During their time together they travelled widely and adopted and raised to sons. Karen, who still lives in Dapto where she and Brian grew up, wrote this book to try to explain the struggles of someone navigating life with dementia and to show other partners of those with dementia what caring can be like.
